Single speed pumps use a single speed, single phase motor that runs at 3,450 RPM at the designed HorsePower. The motor uses a man-made magnet that slowly loses its polarity over time. This loss in polarity causes the efficiency of the motor to degrade drawing more amps and kW per hour. The increase in amps and kW will cause the electric bill to increase as the motor ages and the volume of water the pump is capable of moving will decrease.
Single-speed pumps are available in medium head and high head versions with either 1.5” or 2” inlet and discharge ports. The best choice for single bodies of water is medium heat pumps. High head pumps are more suited to pool and spa combinations with a solar heating system, water features, and in-floor cleaning systems.
